Bialystok University of Technology (BUT) is the largest public technical university in the north-east part of Poland. Established in 1949, it has over 7200 students, 640 teachers, 600 administrative staffs, nearly 140 bilateral agreements on scientific and educational cooperation with foreign partners, over 340 Erasmus+ bilateral agreements and 20 double-degree agreements. From Architecture, through Automatic Control and Robotics, Biomedical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Logistics, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanics and Construction of Machinery, and Forestry, to Management – BUT offers 30 first degree and 24 second degree courses. Some of them are conducted in English: Logistics, Mechatronics, and Management.
The University of Niš (UNI) was founded in 1965 as a state HE institution. It is a medium-sized, mature and well developed academic community, comprising 14 faculties: Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture, Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Electronic Engineering, Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Occupational Safety, Faculty of Philosophy, Faculty of Physical Culture, Faculty of Science and Mathematics, Faculty of Technology and Faculty of Education. The fourteenth – Faculty of Agriculture has recently been founded and it enrolled the first generation of students in the academic year 2018/2019. Most of those faculties have composite structure, i.e., various departments, divisions or majors, offering wide and diversified study and research opportunities at both undergraduate and graduate levels, including opportunities to obtain a PhD degree. The University of Niš presently has 24669 students at all levels of studies, 1723 teaching staff and 686 administrative and support staff.
The UNI is one of six state universities in Serbia. It is located in Niš in the south-east part of country. Niš has more than 300000 citizens and it has a well-developed transport infrastructure. It has an airport with regular airplane lines connected with larger European cities and it is about 230 km far away from Belgrade, the capital of Serbia. Niš was known as “A City of Electronics” because of the industrial giant – “Electronic Industry of Niš”, which had about 20000 workers during 1980s.
Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) is the largest university in Norway with a history dating back to 1910, and a tradition going back to 1767 and the Royal Norwegian Society of Sciences and Letters (DKNVS). It has headquarters in Trondheim and campuses in Gjøvik and Ålesund.
NTNU has main responsibility for higher education in technology in Norway and is the country’s premier institution for the education of engineers. In fact, 75% of all Norwegian master candidates in technology study at the university. However, the university also offers a great academic breadth including natural and social sciences, educational science, economics, medicine and health sciences, arts and humanities. More than 300 study programs are offered across a multitude of specializations.
NTNU employs around 7600 people (full-time equivalents), two thirds of which in academic positions. More than 40.000 students are enrolled at the university, half of which in study programs related to technology and natural sciences.
On 12 November 1945 the first out-of-capital higher education institution was founded in Ruse. Its three departments were specialized in Engineering. On 1 August 1995 a Decision by the National Assembly was made to establish University of Ruse “Angel Kanchev”, thus recognizing its academic expertise not only in the engineering fields, but also in natural sciences, education, law, public health and health care, business and management, which were introduced as a response to the societal changes. The main objects of activity of the university are teaching and research, knowledge and technology transfer. The University of Ruse is near the top of the rankings of higher schools in Bulgaria and abroad, thus asserting its authority as a respected and prestigious educational and research institution. It is a regular member of The European Universities Association (ЕUА), the Danube Rectors’ Conference (DRC), the Visegrad University Association and Interuniversity Centre – Dubrovnik.
The University of Ruse „Angel Kanchev“ is situated in the North-Eastern part of Bulgaria. Ruse is the biggest port on the Danube River in the country-a city with a nineteen- century history, a place, where alongside the rich architectural, industrial and cultural heritage there also live the enterprising national spirit and the deeply rooted European influences. The University is now structured as follows: Eight faculties: Agrarian and Industrial Faculty, Faculty of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Automation, Faculty of Transport, Faculty of Business and Management, Faculty of Natural Sciences and Education, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Public Health and Health Care; Three branches: Silistra branch, Razgrad branch and Vidin branch; Six directorates: Quality of Education, Education Sector, International Students, Scientific Research Sector, University syndicate, Public Relations.
As a result of its long traditions and the support of the European Union, all courses have been updated and diversified. Also, a wide spectrum of new courses has been introduced in the fields of technology, the humanities, management and economics. More than 10 000 students and doctoral degree students study in state-of-the-art study halls and research laboratories, spread on 67 490 sq. m (of which over 14 000 sq. m in the newly built school building -2, officially opened in 2010). The teaching staff consists of 499 highly qualified full-time lecturers, of whom 49 professors, 177 associate professors and 296 PhD lecturers. A great number of renowned specialists in different spheres of knowledge also teach part-time at the University. Student residences and facilities for sport and leisure are provided for all students willing to use them.
